DECEMBER "SWEET"-FREE CHALLENGE DAY 1 TOTAL CALORIES: 2022
CURRENT WEIGHT: 251.2
NOTE: It was Day 1 of my brand new "sweet"-free challenge for December today and I'm so pumped to see this through to the end this time around. Yes, I realize some people were disappointed I only lasted 18 days last month, but all of that is history now. This is a new day, a new challenge, a new reason to be excited about livin' la vida low-carb again! I never really have lost my zeal for the low-carb life, but sometimes you need something like this to get you feeling like you did when you lost weight on low-carb the first time. That's how it's going for me right now as I'm approaching the five-year anniversary of beginning the Atkins diet. It is quite invigorating to know I have been eating a healthy low-carb diet for this long and kept the vast majority of that weight off ever since. Even when the scale creeps up ever-so-slightly, I don't get discouraged. I'm motivated to get right back to the basics and DO IT! That's what I'm doing now and I can't wait to see the results come January 1, 2009. Bring it on!

Jimmy - I am on the fence on the challenge. Part of me says I have no problem, and I am only a week of running away from being at goal again now that the ankle is healed. I am also not at all in denial about the caffeine addiction (4-5 cans per day isn't healthy), but part of getting better has to be wanting it. I am not sure how much I *want* to get rid of my diet coke with Splenda habit right now.
If I do this, I am going to do it cold turkey through one of the most stressful months - EMT class finals, extreme work hours, and the holidays. Give me a day before I commit, but either way good luck to you.
Looking good, Jimmy!
Jimmy,
Welcome home! I'm happy that you're giving the "sweet free" challenge another shot!
I'll be watching your progress with great interest. I have a good feeling about this particular strategy for you.
It seemed to be really doing something positive - the last go around.
After all, if it was just the Metformin, you wouldn't have had the weight-increase while you were away, right?
My best to you and Christine. I hope the next batch of chelation treatments continue to help.
Kent, I admire your candidness and I'm sure many others will be able to relate. You've been a low-carb success as long as I have and regularly keep your body in tip-top shape to run marathons. While I exercise quite a bit as well, for me this challenge is about knowing my body even better than I already do. When you've been livin' la vida low-carb for several years, sometimes you need something like this to help you realize that you are still traveling on a journey to better health that warrants that little something extra. Regardless of your decision about whether you will join the challenge or not, I am proud of you and what you have been able to do with your Atkins lifestyle change.
I've only been low carbing for over 2 months and have run into challenges. Your can-do attitude is such a gift! Thank you for offering an great example to follow. I'll hang in there.
Hi, Jimmy,
I'm on board with the Sweet-Free Challenge. (Read my blog. - Shameless plug! - LOL)
Besides diet soda and the obvious low-carb bars, etc., what else are you avoiding involving "sweet"?
I haven't had a chance to look at your new You Tube video.
Thank you!
Christie, I'm happy to be an encouragement to you. I guess knowing that it is indeed possible to succeed is what makes me so enthusiastic. You can't help but feel great about what you are doing with the assurance it is just what you need to be healthy and fit.
Lora, you gotta watch my video, gal! *wink* ANYTHING that is sweet to the tongue should be eliminated during this challenge. No bars, shakes, diet sodas, sweeteners of ANY kind, and even chewing gum. NOTHING sweet whatsoever--only for a month! YOU CAN DO IT!!!
that Breyers ice cream has to go also :)
Oh no! I thought I was sweet free today and I am sitting drinking tea with Stevia. To me, by the way, coconut oil and lettuce are sometimes sweet to the tongue!! lol, and great job, Jimmy and Lora!! Dawn
You can have coconut oil and lettuce because they are not overtly sweet like a fruit or artificially sweetened beverage would be. Get right back on it, Dawn. :)
