NOTE: Our neighbor's daughter is having a baby in a couple of months and her friend was supposed to give her a baby shower on Saturday. Unfortunately, when the daughter contacted her friend about it today, the girl told her she totally forgot and would be out of town for it. Obviously, she was devastated by this news because this is a special time in the life of a first-time mother-to-be. When Christine and I heard about this, we immediately jumped in and said we'd take care of getting all the food and arranging a place to have it so she could have her shower. WHEW, this is a lot of work...but it's gonna be so worth it for her.
This family is one we've been sharing the love of Christ to for several years now and they let us take their younger daughter with us to church on Sundays. We hope that doing things like this will show them their need for God in their lives and I'm blessed to know we can play a small part in helping out when they need us. If you'd like to make a donation towards the expenses of this, then we'd appreciate it if you clicked on the PayPal link to the right and donated anything. I'm so privileged to be able to give back just a small inkling of the blessings that Jesus has given me throughout my life. God bless you!

Jimmy I don't understand. Showers are not expensive. All you need is some party food. Also, why can't the folks at church rally round to help her? Not undertanding why you want people to donate.
If your so privileged to give back then you pay for it. If you ask for donations then you are not giving back at all just relying on the generosity of others.
THANK YOU Sue! We spent several hundred dollars to help this needy family have a special day in celebration of their newborn that's on the way. If someone would like to be a part of that blessing with us, then that's great. And if you don't, then don't. :)
Lynn, we ended up spending about $300 total for the food, decorations, utensils, drinks, and renting the room at my church. This family is not in church except for their 13-year old daughter who goes with us with their permission. We've been working on them for many years sharing the love of Christ with them in the hopes that they might become interested in being a part of the church family.
When the friend bailed out on the pregnant daughter, we decided to step in to make sure the special day went off without a hitch. And it did. The church (which is actually the PEOPLE who have faith in God like me and Christine) did help her and now I'm giving fellow members of the church (the Christians who read my menus blog) an opportunity to help defray some of these costs for us.
So far, I've received about $20 of that $300 and every little bit helps us soften the financial blow this gave us. Like I said to Sue, if you don't want to donate then don't. But for those who do, anything you can give would be a tremendous blessing. THANK YOU!
Jimmy. You have the Diet Coke with Splenda. Is it JUST with Splenda? Or is it mixed also with Nutrasweet? (*gasp*) Where does this strange and wonderful beverage come from? Can't find it in the stores. Thanks!
So the 13 year old daughter is pregnant? Or some other daughter? Where is this daughter's family in all of this?
LOL, JD! It is somewhat of a soap opera, huh? Lemme try to better explain. Our neighbors across the street are a very poor family living in dismal housing on the miniscule income the man of the house brings home from his job as a mechanic.
They have two younger kids who are 13 (the daughter we take to church with us) and 14 (boy) and two older girls who are 23 and 19. The oldest daughter got married last year and was pregnant soon thereafter.
When the friend bailed on the pregnant daughter, this was devastating to the family because they would not have enough money to be able to put on the baby shower themselves. That's when Christine and I felt led to step in and do what we could do. We're not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but God has blessed us to be able to do good things for other people--and we availed ourselves of the opportunity to share loving kindness in a time of need.
Hey Anne, Diet Coke with Splenda has been out there for several years now. Here's a picture of the 12-pack size it is available in. After getting enough complaints from their customers about the NASTY-tame (aka aspartame) they put in their regular Diet Coke, The Coca-Cola Company decided to make a Splenda version that also contains acesulfame potassium (ACE-K) sweetener. It's very delicious and is similar to Coke Zero...except without the NASTY-tame. It can be hard to find, though.
I agree with you on the NASTY-tame thing, Jimmy.
But enquiring minds want to know--why do you still drink the regular Diet Coke? You had some on June 1 and again on June 3.
I'll still have some from time to time, Stargazey, because that's all that is available to me at the time. But I'm not ingesting it in the high quantities that I used to. :)
Thank you kindly. I'll keep looking...
There's no water available at home? WOW! Course...I don't understand how the diet coke with nasty tame is getting into the house. Do you mean that since you've been drinking diet coke with lemon or lime intermingled with diet coke with splenda almost every day that you go shopping a couple of times a day, and that's all the store had when you were there? Me thinks I am confused.
Vickie, I've stated this previously, but I'm happy to repeat it again for you since you might not have seen it before regarding water. I drink liberal amounts of water every single day. Back during my weight loss I was drinking upwards of 2 gallons a day. Now my water intake is about one gallon a day. An entire chapter of my first book talked about this topic.
My diet soda consumption merely complements the water I drink. I'll buy what's on sale most of the time and sometimes it includes some aspartame drinks as well. I'm a frugal consumer. :)
Okay,
Can you tell me "where" you buy your Diet Coke with Lemon? I haven't seen that type of Diet Coke in any of the stores I've been to. The Walmart in our area sells the Lime variety, but not the Lemon.
Vickie, they used to sell Diet Coke with Lemon, but now I'll just squeeze some fresh lemon into the Diet Coke. :)
On the diet soda - I like Diet Rite, no caffeine (I have heart murmurs and caffeine is not really allowed) and they have different flavors and are sweetened with Splenda, and are inexpensive.
Jimmy, I think what you and Christine did for that family is wonderful. I believe, even though I am not religious, we all have a responsibility to do our best to help others.
THANKS fallwalker! I'm not religious either, but I do believe the mercy God has shown us deserves to be shown to our fellow man. Thank you for getting that.
