NOTE: The baby shower for our pregnant friend who was all upset when she thought it was going to be cancelled the other day went superbly well! For throwing this thing together in about a day and a half, it was an AMAZING experience that she will likely not forget anytime soon. I'm so glad Christine and I were able to step in during her time of need to make this happen (she also found out her husband lost his job on the same day, so this was good timing for us to be able to help). Special thanks to those of you who donated towards this cause. We sincerely appreciate it!
Party food is always tricky when you are livin' la vida low-carb, but you can make it very friendly towards your lifestyle when you make the right choices. The meatballs, eggs, and cheese as well as the low-sugar fruits were the obvious choices and they also had some raw veggies I could have chosen as well. I enjoyed myself, didn't have to have any cake or brownies to enjoy myself at the party just the same. It's what I tell people often--you don't have to miss out on celebrating with your friends, but make better choices. And that's exactly what I did today.

What about some pictures of the happy event?
Christine took some pictures and was arranging those for her Facebook page earlier today. I'll see if I can snag a few from her. :)
I'm happy to hear the shower went well. It was a kind and generous thing you guys did. Good on you. :-)
Happy Sunday to you both!
Those meat balls look good. Sometimes low carb is good, it feels like cheating!

Jimmy I'm disappointed that you let this comment stand. Those meatballs are very clearly industrial meatballs and as such filled with carby binders. Also the sauce is also quite clearly a sugary bbq sauce. You are of course free to eat as you please. And I'm not commenting the rightness or wrongness of your choice here. I too like those meatballs and would have probably had some. But they are CLEARLY a cheat on a low carb diet. You do a disservice to your less educated readers to allow such misconceptions to continue.

I don't force anyone to choose any foods, Erasmus. You know, I think most people are smart enough to take my advice to read the labels and choose foods that are best for them in virtually any circumstance like a party. Of the foods that were available to me at the baby shower, I chose the best ones for a low-carb lifestyle. Was all that food ideal? No. But for what was there, it was making the best out of the situation.
I never once said you were wrong to eat them. In fact I said I would have probably done the same thing.
The problem is you have people like Anne H that come here without your experience looking for insight and inspiration. And that is fine. In fact it is good. But then she comments that it was low carb and implies that it was NOT cheating.
You know better. For you to allow Anne H plus however many lurkers that think the same to go on with the misconception that your choices were low carb is just not right. If you saw a blind man about to walk off a cliff would you try to warn him? Or would you just say that you didn't force him to walk that direction?
To put it in Christian terms, by letting that comment stand, were you being a good Shepard? Or were you more like that fellow that leads people astray?

Think what you may, Erasmus, but there was no ulterior motive on my part by not commenting to what Anne had to say. If this menus blog was all I did, then maybe I'd have time to provide detailed answers to every comment that is left here. But I've got several blogs, a podcast show, YouTube videos and more that keep me quite busy. Again, I trust in the intelligence of my readers here to make the best choices for them. THANKS again for expressing your concerns and your point has been made. :)
Cheating. Clearly cheating. Do we know what LC plan that Anne H. is following, or how many carbs she wants to eat per day? Do we know how many carbs are in the meatballs? Maybe they're clearly a cheat for you, Erasmus, but they may not be for others. And Jimmy is somehow supposed to tailor comments that will assist every commenter here? Can it get any more ridiculous? Oh, yeah, it can, when there are people who actually believe that these menus are fake, that Jimmy doesn't really eat what he's posting. And THEY are concerned about what message the poor, unsuspecting new person will take away with them?? How about the message that there is only one, narrow LC path and if they can't endure it, they're doomed?
