August 31, 2009 Low-Carb Menu

10:15AM
2 local farm pastured eggs cooked in butter with 1 ounce of 4-cheese blend (Monterey Jack, cheddar, Asadero, and Queso Quesadilla)
Diet Rite

3:15PM
Sugar-free Jello pudding with whipped cream
Diet Rite

7:15PM
13-ounce T-bone steak with a little A-1
5 small grilled shrimp with cocktail sauce
1/2 cup green beans cooked with hamhocks
1/2 cup mixed veggies (squash and broccoli) with butter
1/4 cup cantaloupe with whipped cream
Diet Coke with lime
Sugar-free homemade vanilla frozen yogurt with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream

NOTE: I'm struggling slightly with finding the balance between eating smaller meals possibly more often or eating the size of meals that I am eating less often. There is some kind of "in between" area that is the difference between weight loss and weight maintenance. I'm riding that fine line right now, but I'll lock into what's right for me soon. The low-carb foods I am eating are enjoyable and satisfying -- but I can't help but think if my body could do just as well with less. Still experimenting with this! Had an AWFUL headache that came on all of a sudden around 5:00PM today during one of my podcast interviews and it didn't let up at all into bedtime. Tension or stress maybe? I dunno, but I didn't like it at all.

Good luck, JM. You're doing great. What you are trying to do, to me, is the essence of weight loss. This may be controversial here, but I think it's more impt than maintaining perfect carb levels. (I did not say to pig out on carbs.)

Every time I have lost weight, there was at least some moderate calorie restriction. Finding that right level for you will benefit you not only in terms of losing, but also in terms of maintaining.

Waddaya mean, "tension or stress, MAYBE?". The source of your headache can be summed up in a single word: book.

This past week, you've blogged about getting up at night revising, then editors, lawyers, lawsuits and the like. This is all taking its toll, buddy.

But fear not! The end is near, and then you can reap your rewards. As my boss tells me when we embark on a new project: Always be prepared for success!

Hope your headache and all the tension eases up very soon, Jimmy!

Looking forward to your new book!

I once heard of a theory that said headaches were the result of two thoughts competing in your head. True in a way, since it causes stress and conflict.

How many carbs in the coating on Advil? I asked them once, but they never wrote back.

THANKS guys! JP, that stubborn headache from the other night was gone by the next morning. I've never had one that bad since a nagging toothache a few years back.

I sure hope that headache was a fluke for you. For me, I had to give up sodas sweetened with aspartame due to the headaches. But then, didn't you say you used Diet Rite, with splenda??

Anyway, stay well, and I hope all things smooth out for you regarding the book.

THANKS Loretta! Yes, I used caffeine-free, Splenda-sweetened Diet Rite most of the time, so I don't think the headache was from that. But I appreciate the concern. I'm all better now.

Hmmm... Heachache, dizzy spell the day before. Is it possible that you have reduced your carb levels, with your portions to an induction level, where you might be experiencing some "induction flu"-like symptoms.

I thought about that vicalyn, but I don't think so. It was such a quick in and out thing. I'm all better now.
