NOTE: Today was Day 2 of Week three on The 6-Week Cure For The Middle-Aged Middle by Drs. Mike and Mary Dan Eades. So far, the "Meat Weeks" haven't been too kind to me on the scale. The point of these two weeks according to my understanding is to eat a high-fat, high-protein, very low-carb diet to get the calories up which I have. But maybe I'm eating too much food for this. Plus, I'm starting to get sick and that drives me to want to eat more. Like the shakes weeks, I suppose it'll be a trial and error thing to find out the right balance. On a positive note, Christine is DROPPING the weight now like a lead balloon and I'm so proud of her.

Well, sorry for you, Jimmy, but Christine's dropping weight like crazy gives me hope! I need to see the scale moving down. We start week 3 tomorrow. Gave blood today.

Hey Jimmy, Do you think your trouble no the scale could be due to you daily intake of diet coke? I know it is hard to give up your vices, but that stuff is horrible for you (as I'm sure you know!) You should give it up for a month and see what happens! Check out this article: http://www.liv.ac.uk/researchintelligence/issue32/sugar.htm "switching to artificially sweetened foods and drinks doesn’t foster weight loss"
I know you've lost a lot of weight, but perhaps giving up the soda would help you a ton more!

Andrea, THANKS for your comments! We've discussed this topic before, but I'm happy to address it again. In the midst of my 180-pound weight loss in 2004, I drank PLENTY of diet sodas and opt for the Splenda-sweetened ones as much as possible. I've never had an issue with these.

Jimmy, are you weighing your meat portions for this part of the plan?

Great question, Aunt. No I'm not because the doctors don't say to in the book. They require that you have at least 3 ounces of meat at every meal which I'm easily hitting. Their rules for Week 3-4 is to eat as much fat and protein from meats as you desire and then stop. Calories are higher these two weeks by design, but perhaps I need to back off on them a little more than others do. Like I said, Christine is doing a PHENOMENAL job with her weight loss this week so far.

Jimmy, I think you should cut back a bit on your portion sizes. Judging by the pics, I can tell you that's more than likely the real culprit. However, don't go too drastic. You can start by using a little less mayo and maybe eating one less pork or hamburger patty.

You don't have to "technically" count calories, but you can be conscious of your portion sizes.

Keep it up my friend ...

well this is very interesting, I'm glad you are honest in your review of how you feel on this diet. I wonder if so many different types of meat at one meal could be bothering your stomach. Maybe if you stuck with say 2 kinds instead of so many at a single meal? Also, more fat, less meat, though that would not be following the book a T which is what you're trying to do right? So anyway, I know you used to eat really healthy with little or no stomach distress so I am leary of trying the book plan as I have a tender-ish tummy!

I'd agree with you, Nancy, if I didn't have the sore throat. But that tells me this is probably more viral than anything to do with the food I'm eating. We'll push through it and see what happens. :)
