NOTE: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I have a love/hate relationship with this day because while I enjoy the fun of seeing kids get all dressed up in costumes, it truly saddens me that so much sugary garbage is passed out that is then ingested without any regard to the health consequences on the innocent children who consume it. I wish there was a way to separate the concept of giving children candy as a "treat" and instead do something like what my friend Connie Bennett, author of Sugar Shock, suggests: CLICK HERE!

Jimmy, thanks so much for posting this here! Hope it helped people!
I believe that making candy forbidden is exactly what will prompt children into seeking it out once they're old enough to do so (point in case: my neighbour is a nutritionist who never allowed candy in her house, only to recently discover her kids were secretly buying candy from the corner store - god only knows where they got the money).
Forbidding something only makes it more enticing. I let my kids go trick or treating, I let them eat SOME candy for about 24-48 hours, within a limit, then the novelty wears off and I just throw it all in the trash.
Same for Easter chocolates: they each get a bunny from their grand parents every year. They take a couple of bites, then it stays on the kitchen counter for a few days until I get fed up and get rid of it. If I were to take it all away from them or hide it right off the bat, it would only make things worse.
And yes, I do take them to McDonalds. Once or twice a year. Of course they do ask me why I don't eat anything when we go, and I simply explain to them why I prefer wholesome food. It sort of puts them off their meal and they usually don't ask to go back for a loooooong time.
In the end, seeing me eat (or not eat) certain food probably speaks louder than lecturing or forbidding.
Every time I visit this site, the Halloween video from the author of Sugar Shock starts up. I have to scroll and find it to shut it off. Any chance you could pull the plug? (This has never happened on any of your videos or any others I've seen on the web).
Thanks!
Sorry about that! I'll kill it now. Wasn't doing that in my browser, so I didn't notice. THANKS buddy!
