August 31, 2009 Low-Carb Menu

10:15AM
2 local farm pastured eggs cooked in butter with 1 ounce of 4-cheese blend (Monterey Jack, cheddar, Asadero, and Queso Quesadilla)
Diet Rite

3:15PM
Sugar-free Jello pudding with whipped cream
Diet Rite

7:15PM
13-ounce T-bone steak with a little A-1
5 small grilled shrimp with cocktail sauce
1/2 cup green beans cooked with hamhocks
1/2 cup mixed veggies (squash and broccoli) with butter
1/4 cup cantaloupe with whipped cream
Diet Coke with lime
Sugar-free homemade vanilla frozen yogurt with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream

NOTE: I'm struggling slightly with finding the balance between eating smaller meals possibly more often or eating the size of meals that I am eating less often. There is some kind of "in between" area that is the difference between weight loss and weight maintenance. I'm riding that fine line right now, but I'll lock into what's right for me soon. The low-carb foods I am eating are enjoyable and satisfying -- but I can't help but think if my body could do just as well with less. Still experimenting with this! Had an AWFUL headache that came on all of a sudden around 5:00PM today during one of my podcast interviews and it didn't let up at all into bedtime. Tension or stress maybe? I dunno, but I didn't like it at all.

August 30, 2009 Low-Carb Menu

12:30PM
2 eggs with 2 ounces ham cubes and 1 ounce cheddar cheese
2 sausage links
1/3 cup mixed veggies (squash, broccoli, and green beans) with butter
1/3 cup mixed fruit (strawberries and cantaloupe) with whipped cream
Diet Coke with lime

8:15PM
2 eggs with 2 bacon slices, 1 ounce cheddar and mozzarella cheese, 1/4 cup avocado
1/3 cup mixed veggies (squash, broccoli, and green beans) with butter
Diet Coke with lime
Sugar-free homemade vanilla frozen yogurt with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream

NOTE: I was running late this morning, so I didn't have a chance to eat anything before church this morning. I've noticed the past few mornings I'm not really feeling very hungry, but I'm still trying to make sure I eat a little something regardless. My usual two-egg breakfast would have sufficed just fine, but I was so tired I slept later than usual today. Oh well. I did eat a little more at lunch than normal, but not overboard. I rounded out my eggs and meat with some delicious vegetables and fruit. The same went for supper as well where a friend of mine who owns a homemade ice cream shop invited me to try his sugar-free homemade vanilla frozen yogurt with fruit. It was REALLY good!

THANKS for your encouragement about my upcoming new book 21 Life Lessons From Livin' La Vida Low-Carb. The book is basically finished and ready to go to print -- something that WILL happen one way or another in the next month. I realize this is just a minor stumbling block on the way to bigger and better things, but it's still frustrating nonetheless. I can't wait to share all that's in this book because the message is sorely needed at this time when low-fat still unfortunately rules the roost from a public perception standpoint of "healthy." We know better...and others need to know why.

August 29, 2009 Low-Carb Menu

1:30PM
1 whole wheat roll with 1 Tbs butter
Half-pound angus beef hamburger patty with 1 slice cheddar cheese, 1 tomato slice and 1 Tbs mayo
1/2 cup of mixed veggies (squash, zucchini, broccoli) with 1 Tbs butter
Diet Coke with lime

3:45PM
Sugar-free Jello pudding with whipped cream
Diet Rite

9:45PM
1 slice low-carb bread with 2 Tbs butter and 1 ounce of 4-cheese blend (Monterey Jack, cheddar, Asadero, and Queso Quesadilla)
Diet Rite

NOTE: I hate it when days start like this one did today. It began at around 3AM when I got up to go to the bathroom and I felt dizzy. As I was using the restroom, I noticed my stomach was gurgling and doing flip-flops unusually so. Walking back to the bed was an odd experience as the room felt like it was spinning...of course it was dark, so who knows? Anyways, when I got back to sleep and then woke up a few hours later my stomach was still hurting and I felt so nauseous. I was afraid to eat anything and wondered what I ate last night to bring this on.

Finally I got to the point where I was feeling so weak likely from NOT eating that I decided to eat a little something. Going against what I would prefer, I decided to eat a little bread to soak up the acid in my stomach that was causing me such strife. Amazingly, within moments of doing this the pain subsided and I felt well enough to eat REAL low-carb food. Don't you hate that feeling in your tummy like this? It doesn't happen often, but when it does you feel absolutely 100% rotten.

Okay, so I know you want to know the verdict on my weight loss this past week after my 15-pound weight loss last week eating half of my normal portions. You'll notice that I didn't implore that strategy as stringently this week and the result was a net zero weight loss, so I'm still at 15 pounds lost. The good news is I didn't GAIN anything this week -- so I'm still DOWN 15 pounds in 14 days. My goal this upcoming week is to try to get back to the plan like I did it the first week to see what happens. Christine and I will be going out of town next weekend to Indianapolis, but during the week I'll do my best to make do with less while NEVER allowing myself to get hungry. Wish me luck! THANKS for reading!

Oh, by the way, THANK YOU to everyone for your comments about my "controversial" book that my print-on-demand publisher is giving me a hard time about changing due to their fear of being sued. I'm still working through what I'm gonna do, but one way or another this book WILL get out there for all the world to see in 2009. The message is just too important NOT to.

August 28, 2009 Low-Carb Menu

10:30AM
Half-pound pork BBQ with sauce
Diet Rite

5:15PM
Half-pound smoked chicken with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, Pepperjack cheese, spicy mayo
Fruit parfait (strawberries, and cantaloupe with whipped cream)
1/4 slice Hershey's chocolate cake
Diet Coke with lime

10:30PM
Half-pound pork BBQ with sauce
Diet Rite

NOTE: Got a late start eating today because I was up really late last night. Got some bad news from the company I am using to self-publish my new book 21 Life Lessons From Livin' La Vida Low-Carb and it has weighed heavily on me most of the day today. They are concerned that the book is too "inflammatory," "angry," and "controversial" for them to take the risk of printing it as is. If you are familiar with my writing style at my "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" blog, then it is no different than what you see there. If anything, it is toned DOWN from that a bit.

But they have given me an ultimatum to dial it back a little more with the opinions or else they won't be a part of it. I can appreciate that they fear being sued, but what is the line between a First Amendment right to free speech and the potential legal ramifications? Maybe I've been incredibly lucky that nobody has sued me for something I've blogged about to date, but I've seen much worse in books by Ann Coulter, Al Franken, and others who use controversy to sell their books -- with great success!

The preponderance of the book is filled with studies, stories, and facts about how healthy low-carb living is along with some personal stories. One of the chapters deals with my side of the Kimkins story which I have been very forthright about on my blog over the past couple of years. The print-on-demand company believes my description of that diet plan as a "scam" and the creator of the plan Heidi Diaz as a liar, schemer, and shyster taking advantage of innocent victims is much too harsh. That was just one example of many they saw as potential lawsuits waiting to happen.

So here's my dilemma: Tone down the book some more to get the message out there about the studies and information in the book that aren't controversial at all or take it elsewhere to find someone who will publish it? I've got several ideas floating around right now, but I value your input. What say YOU? :)

Diet Coke with lime

NOTE: I was up early today and stayed up late, so it was quite a long day. Because of that, I got an extra meal in today. WOO HOO! Still cutting back on the amount of food I'm eating and enjoying it. I have to emphasize the point that I'm NOT hungry at all and if I ever was I'd eat.

Played a LONG time on the volleyball court tonight and while my ankles did fine, my thumb joints hurt. I am convinced this is because of the statin drugs I took five years ago that are still impacting me negatively. I wrap up my fingers, but they still get jammed way too easily. Oh well, thank God I don't take Lipitor or Crestor anymore.

Ate late tonight, but I was so hungry after the volleyball workout. LOVED IT!

NOTE: Well, it took over a week and a half for somebody to figure out exactly what I'm doing differently in my menus as of late and CONGRATULATIONS to Kitty for nailing it. Here's the comment she wrote guessing my method for losing weight again today:

You have halved your portion sizes. You used to have four eggs for breakfast, double (at least) the amount of hamburger, etc.

Dead on correct-o-mundo, Kitty! Others have bounced around this concept stating I've cut my calories and such. But pretty much what I've done is cut my usual portions in half. Since I've been livin' la vida low-carb for so long, I think it is easy to get complacent in your diet and allow more food than your body needs to feel satisfied. That's very likely what has happened to me the past year or two which has kept me from getting my weight back down to where it needs to be. Thus the cut in portions accomplishes this.

I most certainly have not cut out my "sweet" items I enjoy and have been able to lose even with the diet sodas and other sugar-free, low-carb treats I like to eat. There's nothing wrong with these things as long as you don't consume too much of them in one sitting. Again, this is very easy to do. Consciously thinking about cutting my regular portions in half has helped me more than I could have ever imagined.

Of course, today's menu -- especially supper -- wasn't exactly HALF of my normal portions. But as a general rule on most days I'm gonna be implementing this methodology to get the weight managed well. I'm not allowing myself to go much more than 5 hours between meals if possible (although today I did and was pretty hungry by suppertime). I am by no means starving eating this way and if I am even the slightest bit hungry at any time, then I am eating something with plenty of fat and moderate amounts of protein.

Some have said my diet looks like a fat fast of sorts. Well, I've always eaten a high-fat, moderate-protein, and low-carb diet. Now I'm just eating a little less while still feeling satisfied and fulfilled in this wonderful low-carb way of eating. It's not that much different from what I did in 2004 when I followed the Atkins diet -- except this time I'm not 400+ pounds to start! Do you find yourself putting away a lot of food and struggling to get the scale to move if it needs to? Try cutting your portions slightly and see if it makes a difference for you. THANKS for all of the wonderful guesses everyone!

Lately I've been putting in some really long hours working on that book so now I can rest up again and get back into a regular routine again -- or so I hope. :) Played volleyball tonight and wouldn't you know it I slightly injured my LEFT ankle this time. After going up for a blocked spike, I landed on a guy's foot and I heard this loud "POP" sound. That alone scared me more than anything, but the good news is everything seems to be okay. Work hard, play hard...that's my motto! :)

NOTE: Today started off REALLY strange! I woke up at about 6:00AM and noticed it was pitch black, the fan wasn't running, and the red light coming from my alarm clock was missing. Uh-oh! Did we lose power from a storm I didn't hear last night? Well, I got on up and decided to venture outside. I noticed our entire block was without power, so I hopped in my car and drove down the main road near my house and kept driving until I found power again. I drove for two miles!

Then I headed down to my church about 2 miles from my home in another direction and they too were without power. I noticed the pastor talking on his cell phone inside of his truck across from the church building and he informed me that a car accident hit a major transformer and the entire west side of town was out. Since the power company didn't know when the power would be back on, the pastor said we'd only have one service at 11AM. Although the power came back on by 8AM, it was still an odd way to start the day.

This afternoon we had a church gathering at a local gym that had a pool for the kids. They also had volleyball courts which you know I'm all over. After downing a couple of bunless hot dogs (that's all they had for me to eat since there was chips and cookies otherwise), I played two hours of volleyball in a very humid arena. It was fun, but exhausting. When I got home, I worked on the final few chapters of my 21 Life Lessons From Livin' La Vida Low-Carb book and now only have one more chapter to edit before submitting it to the publisher for print within weeks. It's gonna be over 300 pages as an 8.5 X 11 sized book. It's coming soon!

I'll be getting back to the eating routine I've been doing the past week again tomorrow and expect about 4-5 pounds of weight loss. We shall see.

NOTE: Today was gonna be a really tough day for my mom and dad because August 22nd was my late brother Kevin's birthday. This was his first birthday since his death in October 2008 and I can only imagine the pain both of them were going through thinking about him today. I called both of them (mom lives in Florida, dad lives in Tennessee) early this morning. Mom was having a rough time with it when I spoke with her and said my sister Beverly was gonna take her out to keep her mind off of it. Dad said he was doing remarkably well dealing with it and would likely go by Kevin's grave site sometime today. Although they've been divorced for 30-something years and have had an up-and-down relationship over the years, my dad said he would call mom to check in on her on this shared experience. That was cool!

Okay, I've teased you long enough with the results of my new changes in my diet that you've been seeing over the past week. I won't say exactly what I'm doing just yet, but I will announce to you how much weight loss it has produced in just one week's time: 15 POUNDS! Yep, you read that right! I lost a total of 15 pounds in one week eating this way with the majority of that happening in the first couple of days. Six pounds off in day 1, five more in day 2, and about a pound a day the rest of the week. It's working and I have no plans to stop what I'm doing. I'll check in again next week with another weight loss update so you can follow my progress. But needless to say, I'm quite happy with the results.

Diet Coke with lime

NOTE: As you can see, I was up at the wee hours of the morning today and that's because it's crunch time with the very final stage of my upcoming new book release 21 Life Lessons From Livin' La Vida Low-Carb where I'm reviewing the manuscript one last time before it goes off to the printers next week. I have been reading for a few hours, taking a break and napping some, going back and reading some more, breaking -- I'm about halfway finished now and hope to have it finished by Sunday night and sent to my publisher. This has been a long time coming and the book will be available in just a few more weeks. I'm excited to get this out there!

My eating schedule was a little off today with the early morning start, but I stuck pretty much to the plan until it was time for supper tonight. Christine wanted to go to the Olive Garden and I was pretty hungry since I'd been reading for so long it was over six hours since I last ate. I wish they served Dreamfields pasta, though. My new favorite dish there is the eggplant parmesan that I get without the spaghetti noodles and replace it with squash and zucchini slathered in butter! LOVE IT! This is a very tasty dish and I could eat it until it comes out my ears. I'm working on trying to make this at home it is so mouthwatering delicious! Although this meal was a little more than I've been eating since starting my new plan (which I'll announce the one-week results of on Monday morning!), I was hungry enough to eat it all. Can't wait to share what has made such a difference this week.

I can tell you this has produced weight loss and I'll be announcing the one-week total weight loss on Sunday's menu (posted on Monday morning). I am sure you'll be shocked!

NOTE: Okay, today ought to throw some of your guesses about what I'm doing differently for a loop! It's still working so I'm gonna keep doing it. So many of you have offered up excellent theories about what I am doing now with my menus...some are pretty darn close and others not so much. Keep offering up your ideas and I'll share real soon.

Today I went by my doctor's office to pick up the results of my calcium heart scan that I had done on Monday. As you know if you are a fan of Dr. William Davis, it is vitally important that you have this CT scan of your chest done to see if there are any calcium deposits building up in the arteries leading to your heart. Had my brother Kevin done this prior to this 1999 heart attacks, then he may still be alive today.

As a 5+ year low-carber, I was not at all concerned about my arteries being clogged up as those on the low-fat side would have people believe will happen to them if they start on a high-fat, low-carb plan. I was confident my calcium score would be low, but it's always good to have the evidence to show people who doubt your way of eating is healthy. Now I can proudly tell all those low-fatties that my heart scan calcium score came back as ZERO--as in none, nada, zilch, squeaky clean! WOO HOO! If you have not had a heart scan done yet, then DO IT! It will give you the peace of mind knowing your healthy low-carb lifestyle is indeed making you healthier than you ever thought possible.

I can tell you eating the way I have been for the past three days is indeed working and I'll hold off on sharing the results until I have a good track record that it will continue. Keep sharing your guesses about what I'm doing and why you think it is working when all else hasn't. And you'll note these menus aren't "sweet"-free.

This is Day 2 of the plan and I can tell you it is working absolutely wonderfully so far. When all is said and done, you will be amazed what this little change in my routine has accomplished. Keep sharing your guesses in the comments section below! :)

There are no wrong answers because you are simply offering up an educated guess about what changed. Share your comments below.

NOTE: If you didn't notice already, then your eyes did not deceive you--yes, I went off low-carb plan today. Why? Because I hadn't done that in a while and I'm starting on a more intense low-carb eating plan starting on Sunday. Some of the people I've interviewed on my podcast have talked about the benefits of a "refeed" day. I'm not sure I buy into it personally, but that's basically what you call today. I'm looking forward to starting anew again and attempting to reign in this slight weight gain. I'm NOT giving and neither should you--EVER!

Getting home in the early evening, I plopped on the couch and was pooped. Did a little bit on the laptop and put away the luggage, but not much else. I'll have a lot of work to catch up on from being gone a week. Aaaaaack!

NOTE: Last full day of vacation in Indiana before heading home to South Carolina tomorrow. Went to the local public pool with my sister-in-law Jennifer and her husband Ricky. Their adorable 11-month old baby Brianna gave us wake-up calls every night at 2, 4, and 7AM every single morning. She's our cute little monster:

Anyway, at the pool there was this big slide and 15-foot diving board. The slide was pretty cool and I enjoyed going down it with all the kids. But my brother-in-law Ricky dared me to jump off the big diving board. I got up there and it was MUCH higher than it looked. I started to back out, but the kids started cheering "CANNONBALL, CANNONBALL!" Okay, now I had to jump--so I did. Unfortunately, when I hit the water I dropped like a rock and something cut the tip of my left toe.

When I got to the shallow water and lifted my leg, I could see a piece of skin sticking up with blood gushing out of it. Needless to say, my swimming was finished. I'm so accident-prone, I know. Oh well, what do you do? It was a lot of fun, but this was a painful way to do it. The lesson: when your gut says back off, DO IT!

Aunt Francis and Aunt Mary took us out to eat on our final night and I had steak and ribs--a low-carb lover's delight! This has been an INCREDIBLE vacation!

Diet Coke with Splenda

1:00PM

NOTE: What a nice treat for me and Christine today--we drove 30 miles north to Bloomington, IN for lunch today with low-carb cooking queen Dana Carpender. That entire meal consisted of dishes that appear in her variety of cookbooks, except for the parfait which she custom-made just for us. With the positive response people had about it on Facebook and Twitter after I posted the pics, she's gonna be adding it to her next book. We met Dana and That Nice Boy She Married on the low-carb cruise in January, but it was nice to see the kitchen in the country where she comes up with all those AWESOME low-carb recipes.

We ate at Uncle Tommy and Aunt Suzie's for supper again tonight and they grilled up some chicken which I ate with some garden tomatoes (nothing tastes better!) with sour cream and melon. Being on vacation doesn't necessarily mean you have to have a carb-fest at every meal. You can certainly adapt and avoid the cheesy hashbrown casserole and apple cobbler. I did.

Sugar-free homemade Dreamsicle ice cream

NOTE: With all the people in grandma and grandpa's house this week, Christine's dad and parents helped cook breakfast for us each morning--eggs, sausage, bacon, toast and more. I gravitated to the eggs and meat. They love the turkey bacon and turkey smoked sausages. I missed my full-fat meats, but these weren't too shabby. I also noticed the mayo they had was the "light" version...fat-phobia is alive and well!

Ate a good protein-based meal before playing golf with the boys today. After that round of 18 holes, I was REALLY hungry. Needless to say, I filled up on that delicious pork tenderloin at Uncle Tommy and Aunt Suzie's house for a cookout tonight. We played Texas Hold 'Em afterwards and had a great time. Christine wanted to go to the local homemade ice cream shop and the only sugar-free flavor they had was orange Dreamsicle made with Splenda. It was okay, but they could have made it sweeter with the stevia-based Truvia. Oh well, at least it was cold for this hot summer night!

NOTE: Reunion day! Every August, my wife's family on her dad's side get together and have a big picnic in the town of Bedford, Indiana. Christine's grandfather Burl needed help setting up tables and chairs, so I got up early to help since my father-in-law John was getting some much-needed rest. After lifting and moving around that early in the morning for about an hour, I was hungry. While grandpa got biscuits for everyone else, I asked for a low-carb breakfast bowl--LOVE THAT FROM HARDEE'S!

The reunion itself started around 1:00PM and it was the typical fare--carbs, carbs, and more carbs! Of course, you CAN choose NOT to eat those kind of foods and gravitate to those foods that are good for your healthy low-carb lifestyle. That's what I did today, including getting some of those amazing Italian meatballs from Grandma Lena (the woman is an incredible Italian cook!). I got plenty of food and didn't need to stuff myself with all the carbage that was served. I did consume some sugar-free chocolates that I brought with me. It was hotter than a whooper-snapper!

We all stayed with her dad's mother and father--a PACKED house...with just ONE bathroom! EEEEEK! We had a cookout with Uncle David and Aunt Jane tonight and played a pick-up game of softball with the kids. You gotta love get-togethers with family! I never had this experience with my family growing up so it's a fun thing for me.

Here is my father-in-law's mom Lena with my sister-in-law's daughter Brianna:

NOTE: Today was a travel day as we headed off to Indiana for vacation this next week. I had a couple of good fatty burgers to keep me full for the first few hours of our 500-mile drive. We stopped to have some KFC along the way and the grilled chicken was better this time than the last time. We found a quaint little local home-styled cooking buffet restaurant in Bedford, IN where we were staying and they had some delicious food. Yes, I splurged a bit with bites of some sugary desserts I wouldn't normally have. GOOD STUFF!

August 5, 2009 Low-Carb Menu

1:00PM
Greens salad with feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, and Ranch dressing

Mixed vegetables (Broccoli, cauliflower, squash, and zucchini) with butter
Sugar-free Jello pudding with whipped cream

2 breadsticks
Eggplant Parmesan (Parmesan-breaded eggplant with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese)
Mixed veggies (Squash and zucchini)
Sugar-free vanilla caramel swirl ice cream
Diet Coke with lime

NOTE: Today was a special day for me and Christine--OUR 14TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!!! As my special gift to her, I took a day off from my work to spend with her taking her out to eat a couple of times and going to see a movie (watched Night At The Museum: The Battle of the Smithsonian at the cheap-o theater--Christine LOVED it!).

Since Christine is part-Italian, we did a double-doozy of Italian restaurants today starting with a quaint Greek-Italian restaurant in Greenville, SC called Olive Tree. Very nice atmosphere and the food was exquisite. I'd never had that dish I can't pronounce before, but the flavor in that chicken was intense. WOW! I'm gonna have to try to make that at home sometime. I'm not a big chicken eater, but that was unbelievable!

Then for supper we went to Christine's favorite restaurant in the whole widey-widey world--Olive Garden! While some low-carbers say it's impossible to find something to eat there, that's just not true because they have LOTS of options for people who are livin' la vida low-carb now. I've had their salmon with mixed veggies before and it's really good. Tonight, though, I found a dish that looked really interesting--eggplant that is "breaded" with Parmesan cheese and then topped with marinara sauce and Mozzarella cheese. OMG, that was the most delicious thing I've eaten in years! And the roasted squash and zucchini complemented the meal perfectly. Yes, I had two breadsticks which has 28g carbohydrates each and I enjoyed them with my meal. We don't get to go out to a place like this very often and I chose to have them. No biggie, I'm right back on plan tomorrow.

We're heading out on the road bright and early on Friday morning for Indiana to visit Christine's family for a reunion there. It's been a busy year for us traveling and I'm actually kinda looking forward to relaxing for a change. My new book is just about ready to be released and some R&R action will help recharge the batteries a bit for the coming months. THANKS for reading my menus blog and I welcome your comments anytime! :)

August 4, 2009 Low-Carb Menu

8:00AM
1 hardboiled pastured local farm egg
Diet Rite

1:00PM
Roast beef, salad greens with Ranch dressing, green beans, chocolate mousse
Iced tea with lemon and Splenda

7:30PM
2 half-pound grass-fed beef burgers with Colby Jack cheese and a little A-1
Sugar-free Jello pudding with whipped cream
Diet Rite

NOTE: It had been a while since I'd eaten a hardboiled egg, but today I was in the mood. During my 180-pound weight loss in 2004, hardboiled eggs with mustard and string cheese were a staple breakfast for me. At the time, my job was quite hectic, so I had to eat something quick and convenient. Although I still stay busy with what I do now, there's greater flexibility to eat at my leisure and I enjoy that better now.

Sometimes I look back on 2004 when I lost the weight and wonder how in the world it ever happened with such a high-pressure job. I worked for a company that you'd recognize if I told you and dealt with some of the legal ramifications of the day-to-day operations of that company. Speaking with people every single day who were in some mode of crisis was NOT the kind of job I ever wanted. But I was employed and paid a decent salary for this work.

Predictably, I didn't last more than a year there, but I lost a whole person through the experience--miraculously! Since I know my body was screaming with cortisol from all the stress, somehow some way the weight came off. Nowadays I have a different kind of stress on me at times, but I rarely let things get to me that I'd endanger my health in any way. Life's not worth it to be under that much duress all the time. It is meant to be enjoyed as much as possible. That's my philosophy!

Diet Coke with lemon

7:15PM
100-minute recreational volleyball

9:30PM

NOTE: It was one of those days I just didn't feel like eating much during the morning. I don't know if I was still upset about the American Idol concert faux pas or what, but I didn't eat until the afternoon and that was pretty much all the food I had all day. It was delicious and I ate plenty of food for lunch. My hunger was sated even through my volleyball workout. Gotta love that! No hunger, no need to eat, right? By the way, I have a grand plan in place to make up the Idol mix-up this past weekend coming up in September. I'm not gonna say much about it in case Christine reads this, but it's gonna be a BIG surprise. :D

NOTE: The voting is now officially over and we can declare an end to the "Dork of the Year" contest for 2009 because I just earned that distinction today with probably the dopey-est thing I've ever done in my entire life! A few months ago I decided I would surprise my wife Christine with tickets to go see the American Idols 2009 tour since she is such a big fan of the show. She REALLY like Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, and, of course, Adam Lambert, during this past season and I thought it would make a great 14 anniversary present since it's coming up this Wednesday, August 5th.

I bought the tickets MONTHS ago and we had floor seats just ten rows back from the stage--AMAZING TICKETS! In fact, you can see the tickets for yourself below:

But if you look closely at the tickets, you'll notice something that I didn't notice until we drove all the way up I-85 for 75 miles to Charlotte tonight--the concert was LAST NIGHT! My first clue was that the traffic wasn't bad for a major concert and all the parking areas were completely empty. We got parked and walked up to the Time Warner Cable Arena just before 7:00pm and noticed NOBODY was outside. Our suspicions were confirmed that something was awry when the doors to the arena were locked and that's when I looked down at the tickets and realized we were 24 hours late.

I've never felt so sick to my stomach in all my life. It cost me over $150 for the tickets, $20 in gas to get to Charlotte, parking fees, and the frustration of knowing what an absolute ignoramus I am. I still can't believe I did something like this, but Christine and I are already laughing about it. We're gonna frame those tickets and put them up on our wall so when people ask us about it we can remember the time that Jimmy Moore was named "Dork of the Year!" That's an expensive lesson learned!

Plans are already underway to make this up to Christine next month and she's gonna be so surprised. Pray that I remember the details about it this next time around! :D

NOTE: With all the traveling we have been doing this summer for my high school reunions in Florida and Tennessee and then upcoming trips to Indiana next weekend and Nashville for a wedding in October, I'm pretty worn out. It's nice to get away from the normal routine, but none of the trips so far have felt anything close to a relaxing "vacation" yet. That's why I can't wait for the low-carb cruise coming in March 2010--it can't come fast enough! Hope you can join us for a really great time with your fellow low-carbers and a dozen exciting special guest speakers. WOO HOO! Find out more about the cruise by clicking here.
