Hi Jimmy,
Nice essay on Carlson/Google. As for your MENUS, you just can’t seem to leave the sweet taste alone, having it in all 4 meals today. You and your readers already know you have this problem but I’d just like to mention the use of “sugar-free” products. For food manufactures, this just means that sucrose was not added. It doesn’t mean there are no carbs. This is a murky area involving the government and food companies. Here is some gobbledygook on the subject: http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceComplianceRegulatoryInformation/GuidanceDocuments/FoodLabelingNutrition/ucm053431.htm I think your top menu goal for 2010 should be to get to the bottom of your “sweet lust”. Hypnosis?
I have no reason to give up sweet in my menus as long as they are sugar-free. It's what makes my low-carb lifestyle satisfying and sustainable for me. I'm abundantly aware of the carbs that are in the ingredients I use and I've even blogged about food labels being fishy from time to time.
There's debate within the low-carb community about this subject and I come down on the side that there's nothing wrong with enjoying the taste of sweet as long as you avoid sugar. I did it when I lost 180 pounds and I'm doing it now. I don't see it as a "problem" at all. THANKS for your comments!
Ok, I'll bite. Why is the sweet taste a "problem," LC guy? Berries are sweet and are part of the Eades' Protein Power plan, as are the sweet whey protein shakes that they prescribe for the Six-Week Cure for the Middle-aged Middle. Dr. Richard Bernstein, author of the book The Diabetes Solution, is a type-1 diabetic, and has no problem with LC dieters having desserts made with Splenda tablets or the sugar-free flavored syrups, such as are made by Da Vinci or Torani.
Looks like you had a very tasty day Jimmy.
Jimmy, what's going on with the scale? Did the shake-induced loss come back after giving 'em up? I always appreciated seeing your weight loss/gain status as it helps understand impact of certain foods.
God bless.
Hey Blue, thanks for writing! I didn't really give up the shakes, but just transitioned to deliciously healthy low-carb menus. I am down slightly from where I started and still trucking along. THANK YOU for reading my menus!
Yep yep, Sheila, I did! :)
