NOTE: After Monday's Pilates class, I "felt" it more than usual and when I woke up on Tuesday morning I was sore in my back, shoulders, legs...heck, all over my body! So with great regret I decided to give my body a rest and NOT go to one of my favorite classes at my local gym--Namaste yoga. These yoga classes have been an amazing addition to my overall health by helping me shut out the stressful parts of life and increasing my flexibility. I love 'em! It felt great to be back in class today for a mixed class of Pilates/yoga. One of my goals for 2011 is to improve my tight hamstrings and to get better and better at doing the poses. I'm best at hip stretches and even sun salutations. My worst areas are balance and ab/core work. If you've never tried Pilates or yoga, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Jimmy,
When I get the chance to even go to the gym the only reason I go is to take the yoga/pilates class. I believe that my instructor is in her early sixties, and man-oh-man she is amazing! Very strong! Last year January, when everyone is trying to "start again", a couple of very young men came to our class. I later heard them saying "those old ladies kicked our butts!" We did too!
Quite a few older ladies in my class take the classes to improve their balance and reduce stress. Many of them live by themselves and hope to avoid a damaging fall that could land them in a nursing home.

Hey.
I haven't been following your diet blog for a while, but I did last year when you went through your egg fest, and I was just wondering now, howcome you're back to eating "substitutes"? And by that I mean low-carb bars and breads and cookies you include in this diet blog.
I'm asking out of curiosity since I thought you last year excluded them as you thought they might have added to the weight you gained in spite of eating low-carb.
How you don't get angry at me for asking, you might have explained this in an earlier blogpost that I've missed by not following the blog for a while.
Live well, Isabelle
Thanks Isabelle. I don't get angry about much of anything and I appreciate your question. I choose to eat what I put in my mouth and that's the simple answer. Perhaps these things could be a culprit in my struggle...perhaps not. Thank you for your input and I wish you great health in 2011.
I don't really understand the problem that some persons have with so-called "substitutes," especially if they're made with quality ingredients. Taking various ingredients and putting them into a bowl and creating a dough and shaping them into bars doesn't alter the effect that the ingredients have on the body. Calling them meal replacements or protein bars or Wallawalooza bars doesn't make them bad nutritionally. Putting low carb ingredients together and frying them up in some coconut oil and calling them pancakes doesn't make them have the same effect as traditional pancakes made with refined white flour.
