NOTE: Our church has an annual tradition to serve a Thanksgiving meal to the entire congregation on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, so today was the day. There were all kinds of high-carb foods available, but Christine and I stuck mostly with the low-carb options sans the pumpkin pie. It was a very small slice and tasted amazing. It inspired me to want to try to make my own low-carb version of it sometime. Maybe for Christmas.

NOTE: One of my favorite afternoon exercise classes of the week is on Sundays at 3PM for "Spin Then Zen" with an hour of spin class followed by 30 minutes of yoga stretching. But two things stopped that from happening today...still having lingering effects from this pseudo-cold/achy body/drainage thing plus an adoption seminar at our church. Since Christine and I can't have biological children of our own, we are looking into this family-building option. It started right smack dab in the middle of when the exercise class would happen. I needed one more day of rest anyway.

NOTE: Today was Christine's birthday and she's been begging me to get her an iPad...something I don't even have! But now she has one (and I still don't!). That's okay, making her a happy camper is a part of what my role as a good loving husband is all about. I spent a little more time with her today than usual to let her know how much she means to me. Through all the ups and downs of this low-carb ride I've been on over the past nearly seven years, she's been right there with me and for me loving me no matter what. You can't put a price on this kind of loyal support and I'm so grateful for the woman I call my wife.

NOTE: Christine's birthday is on Thursday, so I decided to do something wild to kick it off tonight--we went to Denny's to get her free Grand Slam on her birthday! She thought it was a fabulous idea although we were so tired (now I know why old people like to go to bed a little earlier...LOL!). I took the day off from exercise today to give my body a recovery day...I'm still feeling it from pushing that lawnmower to the repair shop on Monday. This can only be making me stronger and I'm happy about that. Tomorrow we'll celebrate Christine's birthday some more...I got her an iPad which she's been BEGGING me to get her for a long time. Hey, I don't even have one yet! :D

NOTE: After my crazy day yesterday pushing my riding lawnmower to the repair shop, I was feeling it today during yoga class. I don't know if she was working us harder or if my body was just more wore out from pushing that big metal box for a mile, but I was sweating within minutes and the strength tracks were a bear on my legs. OUCH! I made it through it, though, and surmised that it would probably be a good idea to take tomorrow off. Sounds like a smart plan to me!

NOTE: It was an oddball workout day for me today. This morning I decided to take my riding lawnmower to the repair shop about a mile from my house. I don't have a truck or way to transport the thing there, so I decided to push it in neutral. Yes, I know that's absolutely nutso, but I thought "what the heck!" since I've been doing a lot of extra exercise lately. And I did surprisingly well for about 3/4 of the way there before I almost petered out. A couple stopped to help me the last 100 feet or so to the shop and drove me home. I was plumb wore out! A couple of hours later I got a call that the fuse was burnt out and that it was all fixed (could have been a LOT worse--I put the battery in backwards and thought I had fried the wires or worse!). So I walked to the shop and drove the thing home...then I mowed the yard! I even found time and energy to get in a Pilates workout this afternoon. Again, NUTSO! And I was feeling it in my quads, biceps, triceps and lower back, too! Remind me not to do that again.

I'm glad I did. It felt fantastic once I got in there and started working out. Obviously if I needed to stop and take a break today I would have done it, but I don't want to fall into the habit of skipping workouts just because I'm being lazy. If I can prevent that from happening then there's nothing that's gonna stop me!

NOTE: My new gym I've been going to had an open house today with a 30-minute "sampler" each of all the group classes that are available. I overslept so I missed the spin class, but I know what that's like. It was interesting doing the "Group Power" class led by a woman who doesn't look muscular but she sure led a fantastic weight lifting workout. May have to do more of those classes even though it hurt like the dickens! Zumba was also an experience...the ladies LOVE that class but all the movements seem so random. I may try it a couple of more times, but it's not really my thing. After two straight hours of workouts, it was good to just crash! Ahhhhhhhhh.

NOTE: This has probably been my most difficult week since I started my recent exercise schedule because my body has not been feeling like doing anything. It could be the sudden change to cooler weather or perhaps some fatigue has set in from so much exercise. I dunno. But what I do know is I feel better, stronger, and happier when I get in my physical activity so I'm not gonna stop. Of course, the Pilates/yoga has been a little more intense lately too with new moves that challenge my body. Many of the moves in those classes have you lifting your own body weight (plank, bridge, etc.) and that pushes my strength to the limits. It's a good thing because I know I'm getting stronger because of it. By the way, my weight was 281.9 today down slightly from a couple of weeks ago. I'm not worried about my weight so much as how I feel about what I'm doing. I know the weight loss (especially fat loss) will come the more I stay engaged in the process. It may not show up on the scale if I'm growing muscle, but I'll feel it in my clothes. Even still, I feel I'm making progress.

NOTE: Some days when I do yoga it just feels fantastic when I'm done and for hours afterwards. Other days, like today, I "feel" it when I leave and still feel the stretched out muscles throughout the day. I suppose this is like what happens when you lift weights and have the muscle exhaustion that happens as a result. Even still, I'm loving my yoga and other classes still. There's just an exhilarating release that comes (all those endorphins) when you move your body in a deliberate way.

I've been taking appropriate time off from exercise as need be to allow my body to rejuvenate...maybe it's only temporary but worth noting.
